Dyson's latest advancement in hair science is the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener, which allows wet-to-dry straightening using air—without hot plates and without heat damage. Traditional tools damage hair with heat, but the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener features a precisely directed airflow that dries and straightens damp hair simultaneously. Designed for all hair types, it enables a smooth and natural hairstyle with volume and movement, while preserving hair strength and a healthy appearance. Hair is held between two arms, from which high-pressure, precisely angled airflow is directed downward and onto the hair—both drying and straightening it with a single tool.

Advanced technology
Precision airflow jets

Along the arms of the straightener are two 1.5 mm openings. Air is accelerated through these openings, creating two high-speed downward jets. Projected at a 45° angle, they converge into a single focused airflow, generating the downward force needed to straighten the hair as it dries—with control.

Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor

The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener is powered by the Hyperdymium™ motor. It’s small, lightweight, and powerful enough to generate the airflow needed to dry and straighten wet hair simultaneously. A 13-blade impeller spins at up to 106,000 rpm, propelling over 11.9 liters of air through the device per second. This generates up to 3.5 kPa of air pressure—enough to straighten hair as it dries. At just 27 mm, the motor is compact enough to fit into the handle without compromising power.

Intelligent heat control

Like the rest of the Dyson Hair Care range, the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener features intelligent heat control. Glass bead thermistors measure airflow temperature 16 times per second to prevent heat damage and protect the hair’s natural shine. This data is sent to a microprocessor that regulates the heating element, ensuring the airflow never exceeds the required temperature.

User trials

During the development of the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener, we gathered the largest volume of user trial data ever collected. We learned that users could find the airflow uncomfortable. This led to the creation of diffusers that direct the air away from the user and distribute heat for more comfortable use. The diffuser fins are angled across the X, Y, and Z axes to redirect thermal mass away from the user while styling—while still ensuring excellent root-drying performance.

Two styling modes

The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener offers “Wet” and “Dry” styling modes, as well as a “Cool shot” mode to set the style.

• Wet mode – Three heat settings: 80°C, 110°C, and 140°C.
• Dry mode – Two heat settings: 120°C and 140°C + a Boost mode.
• Airflow control – Two speed settings (low and high) + “Cool shot” and “Root drying” modes.
