The latest development from Dyson in hair science is the Dyson Airstrait straightener, allowing for straightening from wet to dry hair using air, without heating plates and without heat damage. Traditional tools damage hair through heat, but the Dyson Airstrait straightener is equipped with precise directional airflow that simultaneously dries and straightens wet hair. Designed for all hair types, it creates a smooth and natural hairstyle with volume and movement while preserving the strength and healthy appearance of the hair. Hair is held by two arms, from which a precisely directed high-pressure airflow is sent downward onto the hair, allowing for both drying and straightening with a single tool.

Cutting-edge Technology

• Precision Air Jets: Along the arms of the straightener are two 1.5mm openings. Airflow is accelerated through these openings, creating two high-speed downward air jets. Projected at a 45° angle, they converge to form a single concentrated air jet, thus creating the necessary downward force to straighten the hair while drying, with control.
• Dyson Hyperdymium Motor: The Dyson Airstrait straightener is powered by the Hyperdymium motor. It is small, lightweight, and powerful enough to generate the airflow needed to dry and straighten hair simultaneously when wet. A 13-blade impeller spins up to 106,000 rpm, propelling over 11.9 liters of air through the device per second. This generates up to 3.5 kPa of air pressure, which is sufficient to straighten hair while drying. With its 27mm size, the motor is small enough to fit within the handle without sacrificing power.
• Intelligent Heat Control: Like the rest of the Dyson Hair Care product range, the Dyson Airstrait straightener features intelligent heat control technology. Glass bead thermistors measure the temperature of the airflow 16 times per second to prevent heat damage and protect the hair's natural shine. This data is sent to the microprocessor, which regulates the heating element, ensuring that the airflow does not exceed the required temperature.

User Testing

• User Trials: During the development of the Dyson Airstrait straightener, we collected the largest amount of data ever obtained in user trials. We learned that users may find the airflow from the device to be unpleasant. This led to the creation of our diffusers, to direct the air away from the user and distribute the heat so that it is comfortably utilized. The fins of the diffuser are adjusted on the X, Y, and Z axes so that the thermal mass is directed away from the user during styling, while ensuring excellent root-drying capability.

Two Hairstyling Modes

• The Dyson Airstrait straightener features "Wet" and "Dry" styling modes and a "Cool Air" mode to set the style. The "Wet" and "Dry" modes are pre-set with specific combinations of heat and airflow to achieve the best results. In "Wet" mode, you have the choice of three heat levels: 80°C, 110°C, and 140°C. In "Dry" mode, you have the choice of 120°C or 140°C or the additional "Boost" mode. For airflow control, there are two speed settings, low flow and high flow, as well as "Cool Air" and "Root Drying" modes.
